Love your enemies

Admonition 9
On Love
The Lord says: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Pray for those who persecute and calumniate you.
That man truly loves his enemy who does not smart over the injury that is done to him so much as he burns in expiation for the sin on his enemy's soul, on account of the love of God, and he shows his love of his enemy by his deeds.

Of Love

Day 12 Admonition 9
Of Love.
The Lord says in the Gospel, “Love your enemies,” (Mt 5:44) etc. A person truly loves their enemy when they do not grieve because of the wrong done to them. But who, for love of God, is afflicted by the sin on their brother’s or sister’s soul; and who shows them their love by their works.
The original title for this Admonition was De dilectione ” Of Kindness”
A milder form than the much abused word ‘love’
We do not have to fall madly in love with our enemies but we must be kind to them, wish them well.
No matter what false accusations they bring against us we must pray to our God for the harm they do to their own souls.
The admonition says ‘uritur’ ‘burn’; in our prayers for them we set ourselves afire for them with our own love of God.
Our sign to them that we do this is by being kind to them.
